Almost 170 kms from Ranchi and surrounded by lush green forests, hills, valleys and waterfalls, Betla is a serene tribal village located in the Latehar District of Jharkhand bordering the jungle. It’s the main tourism centre of the Palamu Tiger Reserve. Chital deer and bison can be seen grazing in the grasslands. Elephants are available for tourist ride. Mahouts lead their elephants into the forest area. Tourists can enjoy watching wild elephants and other animals on elephant back. A baby elephant, Rakhi who got separated from her herd is also a major attraction for tourists. The guided jeep safari organized in the Belta National Park to spot wildlife and birds is truly exciting. There are five watchtowers in the sanctuary, which offer unobstructed views of animals.
बेतला राष्ट्रीय उद्यान :- लातेहार जिले में स्थित बेतला राष्ट्रीय उद्यान झारखंड का एकमात्र राष्ट्रीय उद्यान है । यह झारखंड की राजधानी रांची से करीब 170 किलोमीटर दूर स्थित है। इसकी स्थापना सितम्बर , 1986 ई. में की गई | यह 231.67 वर्ग किमी में फैला हुआ है | विश्व में बाघों की सर्वप्रथम गणना 1932 ई में यहीं की गई थी | भारत सरकार 1973 ई से यहाँ ब्याघ्र परियोगना चला रही है | इस राष्ट्रीय उद्यान में हाथी, बाघ , चीतल , सांभर , नीलगाय , भालू ,बंदर, मोर जंगली सूअर अदि अनके वन्य प्राणी के साथ- साथ नाना प्रकार के ग्यात अज्ञात वनस्पति, जडी-बुटी, अर्थात परिस्थिकतंत्र को सुरक्षित रखने वाले सम्पूर्ण फ़्लोरा-फौना पाए जाते है | यहाँ पर्यटकों के निवासार्थ एक आकार्सक ट्री हाउस है | विद्यार्थियों और शोधकर्ताओं के लिए इस उद्यान में एक नेचर इंटरप्रेटेशन सेंटर है जिसमे वन्य प्राणियों का एक संग्रहालय पुस्तकालय, और मीटिंग हॉल है जो शोधकर्ताओं के लिए उपयोगी है |
